Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are metal posts Dr. Arnett permanently places in your jawbone to hold your false teeth, or crowns, in place. They act just like the roots of your teeth, anchoring them in place with little chance of being knocked out or coming loose.

If the crown breaks, it’s easy for Dr. Arnett to simply create a new, custom crown and attach it to the original implant.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

If you lose a tooth or multiple teeth because of an accident or decay, you have several options to replace them. Compared to keeping your gaps or getting dental bridges or dentures, dental implants are advantageous because they:

  • Are permanent and durable
  • Aren’t removable
  • Stay sturdy
  • Feel natural and comfortable
  • Make it easy for you to speak and eat
  • Preserve your smile’s appearance
  • Keep your surrounding teeth intact and in place

Although getting implants takes time, Dr. Arnett makes sure you have temporary replacement teeth throughout the process. Then, you can enjoy renewed self-esteem with your permanent replacement teeth.

What is the procedure for getting dental implants?

To enjoy the benefits of a dental implant, you must undergo dental implant surgery at The Implant & Denture Experts.

Your treatment starts with an initial consultation during which Dr. Arnett asks you a series of questions and examines your mouth to decide if the procedure is right for you.

The surgery itself has several steps. You may need to complete the entire process in several appointments with some healing time between them.

First, Dr. Arnett removes any remaining parts of your missing tooth. Then, he cuts your gum open to reveal the bone below. You may need some of the bone removed to hold the implant, but sometimes Dr. Arnett can simply screw the implant into place.

After this, your jaw needs some time to accept the implant and heal around it. Then, your custom artificial tooth can be placed on the post.

How is my artificial tooth created for my dental implants?

The team at The Implant & Denture Experts uses AvaDent® to digitally create your new tooth or teeth. AvaDent’s technology allows your new tooth to fit perfectly and comfortably in the place of the missing one.

The clinic keeps AvaDent’s rendering of your new tooth on file in case you need a new one that’s exactly the same.
